Using "Taught Participant Observatory Method" of data collections coupled with interviews where necessary and secondary sources of enquiry, it was observed that the aquatic environment of the people has great influence on the lives, design patterns and creative intuition of the people. It emphasized the urgent need for an eclectic national choreographic model for Nigeria based on her numerous unique folk dance cultures. • Juliana Amelia Paes Azoubel. Frevo and the Contemporary Dance Scene in Pernambuco, Brazil
Frevo and the Contemporary Dance Scene in Pernambuco, Brazil
    Juliana Amelia Paes Azoubel
This book analyzes the formalization and development of frevo, one of the most important Brazilian popular music and dance traditions,in the streets and theatres of Recife, Pernambuco,Brazil.Historical analyses and ethnographical research demonstrate the contribution of key artists in the development of this dance from 1907 to 2007. Black Brazilians of the northeast of that enormous creative country teach us how to exult in dancing frevo, teach us the lessons of deep pleasure and joy as a bulwark against the contretemps of life and political struggle. Juliana Azoubel does not leave undiscussed a single issue of self-determination and self-discovery at the heart of frevo. I am proud to have read this volume and the amount of cultural information so richly shared here will keep readers engaged...
  • Christian Nwaru. Nature Of Dance: a study of omenimo
Nature Of Dance: a study of omenimo
    Christian Nwaru
Dance has closely been associated with man in his day-to-day activities, yet the performers of dance art are treated with disdain. This is because most people do not understand the nature of dance and how it signifies. Therefore, the objective of this book is to understand the Omemimo dance in relation to its modes of meaning generation. The nature of dance and its signifying practices imply the meaning producing behaviours people engage in following particular conventions or rules. This book explores some dances in Omenimo repertoire and their modes of meaning generation. Through form and content in ‘Uri-Agha’ and ‘Nkwa-Agu’, the author clarifies the literal and non-literal mode of dance communication.
